Over-55 homeowners have some £300 billion of property wealth they could draw upon in retirement, says research from Retirement Advantage.

A survey by London removals and storage firm Kiwi Movers shows that 25% of us pack unwanted clutter that we’ll never use when moving house and over half still have unpacking to do ten months after moving into a new home.

Summer is in full swing and I imagine we all secretly enjoy the respite on our roads as traffic levels reduce during the school holidays. There has however been no such respite in the property market with demand continuing to outstrip supply across all price ranges and with some exceptional values being achieved for properties in highly sought after locations and offering excellent accommodation.

Analysis from leading property web portal Rightmove shows the biggest gap between demand and supply is in the first-time buyer sector, with the number of enquiries per property for two bedrooms or less being 24% higher than for larger properties of three bedrooms or more.

HomeLet’s rental index figures for June shows another rise with average rents outside of London now standing at £747 per month, with the capital coming in at £1,515 per month.

More than half a million homeowners now own property worth £1m, the Zoopla Property Rich List report has revealed.
